About the Strategist position

Intelligent Futures is seeking a Strategist to help us create meaningful change for the common good. This full-time position will allow you to lead diverse, impactful projects while contributing to both client success and internal growth. As a Strategist, you will lead projects that contribute to creating positive, lasting change. You will work directly with clients across sectors to deliver innovative, context-specific solutions that move communities forward. The role requires a balance of independence and collaboration, allowing you to take ownership of projects while fostering teamwork within the company and with clients. We work on complex challenges across a wide array of issues, including sustainability, social well-being, affordable housing, urban agriculture, and more. The successful candidate will lead and support project management activities, research, community engagement, and development of strategies for the common good. 

Related responsibilities include:

  • Project Leadership: Lead diverse and complex projects with minimal direction.
  • Client Engagement: Work directly with clients to deliver impactful, innovative work, building strong, lasting relationships.
  • Process Improvement: Contribute to the evolution of our internal processes by proposing and implementing new ideas.
  • Collaboration: Contribute to an environment where ideas flow freely, contributing your insights while being open to others’ perspectives.
  • Revenue Generation: Support business development by contributing to proposals, project budgets, and schedules.
  • Financial Management: Oversee financial performance for your projects, ensuring they meet budgetary and timeline expectations.

In addition to the activities identified above, other activities will emerge throughout the position. No one at Intelligent Futures says “That’s not my job,” so you might find yourself assisting in website development, developing proposals, or working on internal strategic initiatives.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess either an undergraduate or graduate degree in a field equipped to support the development of strategies for the common good. This can include urbanism, community development, management, environmental protection, business and/or human-centred design.

  • 4-7 years of experience in a related field, such as urbanism, strategic planning, sustainability, or community development.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and deliver on complex, emergent projects.
  • Proven ability to work with diverse interest holders to design processes that drive meaningful outcomes.
  • Excellent communication skills in writing, speaking, and graphical representation.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects while maintaining a high standard of work.
  • A self-starter who takes initiative with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Strong alignment with our core values of collaboration, curiosity, and courageous action.

Compensation

  • Annual salary: $60,000-$75,000, based on experience. In addition, participation in our team profit-sharing model after successfully completing a probationary period.

  • Flexible work environment, including a 4-day work week.
  • Our home base is at Kensington Corner. While we prefer the position to be based in Calgary to facilitate in-person collaboration and team engagement, we are open to discussing alternative arrangements for the right candidate. Flexibility is important to us, and we are willing to explore remote or hybrid options that align with both the needs of the candidate and the team. Please note that the candidate must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
