Summer Internship: Engagement and Communications
About Intelligent Futures
Intelligent Futures is a Certified B Corp strategy and engagement firm based in Calgary, built on the belief that good strategy and genuine dialogue can advance the common good. We partner with municipalities, health authorities, nonprofits, and values-led organizations to help them navigate where they are going and bring people along. Our work spans strategy, engagement, and capacity building. We hold ourselves to a high bar because the work matters, and we are looking for a new teammate who feels the same.
The Opportunity
This is a four-month, paid internship for a student who wants to do real work on real projects. You will not be shadowing from the sidelines. From week one, you will be contributing to active engagements, producing materials for clients, and learning how this kind of work actually gets done.
What You Will Do
Your day-to-day will shift with our projects, but you can expect to:
Support the design and delivery of engagement processes, including workshops, online consultations, and community events
Draft communications materials such as project summaries, plain-language reports, and presentation decks
Support social media planning and content creation for IF and for our clients
Conduct research and analysis on topics tied to active projects, including background scans, literature reviews, and data synthesis
Help document and synthesize engagement findings into clear, useful summaries for clients and project teams
Who We Are Looking For
We are deliberately casting a wide net. This role suits students from a range of disciplines, including but not limited to:
Communications, public relations, or journalism
Urban planning, geography, or environmental studies
Sociology, political science, or public administration
Marketing, design, or digital media
Business administration, commerce, or management
Any program where you have built strong research, writing, or people skills
Your field of study matters less than your instincts. We want someone who communicates clearly, asks good questions, takes initiative, and genuinely cares about contributing to the common good.
What Makes a Strong Candidate
Strong written communication skills and an ability to adapt tone and format for different audiences
Comfortable managing multiple tasks and staying organized in a project-based environment
Genuine curiosity about positive change, public engagement, and how decisions get made
Willingness to learn tools and approaches that are new to you
Based in Calgary, or able to work from Calgary, for the full internship
