At Intelligent Futures (IF), we help communities and organizations imagine what’s next—and build the path to get there. Whether it’s advancing climate action, rethinking housing, or designing more equitable systems, we work at the intersection of sustainability, equity, and prosperity. Our process design work blends strategy, engagement, and future-focused tools to tackle complex challenges and deliver lasting impact.
We believe that diverse perspectives make our work stronger. We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences—including those who may not see themselves represented in the traditional strategy or tech sectors. If you’re excited about this role and our purpose, we want to hear from you.
Now, we’re turning that lens inward. We're embarking on a project to explore how artificial intelligence can become a strategic amplifier across our practice. We believe that technology must serve the common good—used with care, purpose, and integrity. That’s where you come in.
We’re looking for a curious, thoughtful, and motivated graduate-level intern to join our team for a 10-month term. You’ll help shape how AI is integrated into our work, contribute to real-world projects, and learn alongside experienced change agents designing better futures.
What You’ll Do
This isn’t a theoretical exercise. You’ll be at the heart of a hands-on, real-world innovation initiative. Key activities include:
- Evaluating and piloting AI tools to support
- Strategic planning and scenario development
- Research and analysis
- Public and stakeholder engagement
- Evolving our ethical governance framework for AI use, aligned with IF’s values
- Creating internal training materials to build capacity and confidence across the team
What You’ll Learn
This role provides a front-row seat to strategy in action. You’ll gain:
- Experience contributing to complex, multidisciplinary projects focused on climate, housing, equity, and systems change
- Exposure to a team of strategists, designers, and systems thinkers working across Canada
- Insights into how to apply emerging technologies to strengthen—not replace—human creativity and connection
- Skills in applied AI, ethical innovation, and participatory strategy design
What We’re Looking For
- We’re seeking candidates who align with our purpose and are eager to dive into multidisciplinary projects. You might come from backgrounds such as:
- Human-Centred Design
- Urban Planning
- Public Policy
- Business
- Environmental Studies
- Social Sciences
- Data Sciences
- Or any field where you can demonstrate a strong connection to our purpose and the ability to contribute meaningfully to our work.
- Key Attributes:
- A passion for creating sustainable and equitable results
- Strong research and analytical skills
- Excellent communication—verbal, written, and visual
- Adaptability and comfort with ambiguity
- Collaborative mindset with initiative and follow-through
- Curiosity about futures thinking, systems thinking, and AI’s role in strategic change
- Experience with AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity) is a bonus, but a learning mindset matters more
- This project is supported by a federal grant, which includes the following criteria:
- 15 to 30 years of age at the start of the job placement
- a post-secondary graduate
- a Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada or person granted refugee status in Canada
- legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial legislation and regulations
- a first-time participant in a Youth Employment and Skills Strategy work experience program targeted at post-secondary graduates
What You’ll Get
- A chance to help shape how a B Corp consultancy integrates AI for the common good
- Mentorship from an interdisciplinary team
- Involvement in real client projects
- Flexibility to work from anywhere in Canada (our HQ is in Calgary)
- A supportive, purpose-driven team culture
