Urban Agriculture

This happy fellow represents our work in urban agriculture.

We’ve done a fair bit in this space, including the Strathcona County Urban Agriculture Strategy and the City of Beaumont Urban Agriculture Plan, both of which won awards from the Alberta Professional Planners Institute.

Food brings people together. Everyone has an opinion on it, and most of those opinions are warm ones. Then you get to backyard chickens.

For a topic as wholesome as growing your own food, it’s striking how reliably the humble urban hen divides a room. Noise, smell, predators, property values: the chicken debate has it all. We’ve learned to design engagement that gives it the airing it deserves, then helps a community land somewhere it can live with.

Turns out the hardest part of food in the city isn’t the planning. It’s the poultry.
